A been-there, done-that guy

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin describes new backup quarterback Byron Leftwich as "a smart guy, a been-there, done-that guy."

Yeah, but done what, exactly? Get injured and lose his job in Atlanta last year to Joey Harrington? That ain't good.

So, if you get the impression that we're lees than excited about Leftwich joining the Steelers, let's just say we'd rather have a healthy Charlie Batch.

As for fourth string QB Mike Potts out of William & Mary, we hardly knew ye. It's time to put that degree to work.

Dude, sorry I missed this! I gotta get on the ball with my blog reading...

Leftwich certainly hasn't lived up to the expectations that come with being a 1st round QB. But as a backup, we could probably have done worse.

I personally like Dennis Dixon, though too. And of course, I have a soft spot for Mikey Potts.

Like Cotter, I gotta get on the blog ball too. (Apologies to Cotter as well!!!)

I know what you're saying about Leftwich but the thought that enters my puny little head is this:

What did Batch ever accomplish in Detroit before coming home to Pittsburgh? I think the answer was that he was a really solid quarterback who didn't achieve any milestones but that's pretty much what you can say about Leftwich if you take into account his years in Jacksonville and forget the one year in Atlanta.

I don't know... maybe I'm looking at it wrong... but thinking this way does help me sleep better at night!

You sleep at night? Huh. That's odd.

"Listen, sonny Jim. Sleeping like this will add ten years to your life. I learned it from Keith Richards when I toured with the Stones. This may be the reason why Keith cannot be killed by conventional weapons."

What movie?

Hmmm ... dunno. Almost Famous, maybe?
